An Everton kit launched to raise money for a charity inspired by the murder of schoolboy Rhys Jones is the club's fastest selling pre-ordered shirt.

Everton hope to raise £100,000 for the Liverpool Unites children's charity following Rhys's death in August 2007.

The club's retro blue home strip - launched this summer - had already broken records, but pre-orders of the new shirt are three times more popular.

Due to be unveiled on 29 October, the shirt will be available the next day.

The charity is supported by Stephen and Melanie Jones, the parents of 11-year-old Rhys who died after being shot in the Croxteth Park estate area on 22 August two years ago.

Liverpool Unites fundraiser Tom Woolley said: "The fact that this has become Everton's fastest ever selling shirt is great news.

"It really underlines the level of support Liverpool Unites has received from the people of Merseyside."

The shirt will be seen in public for the first time at a dinner at Club Everton, Goodison Park, on Thursday 29 October and will be available the following day from Everton club shops and via the club's official website.

Each shirt will be individually boxed, numbered and presented with a certificate of authenticity and can also be pre-ordered from the Everton website for delivery on 30 October.

Liverpool Unites are looking to raise £100,000 with 10% of these funds going to the Rhys Jones Memorial Fund.

Separately the Rhys Jones Memorial Fund is hoping to raise £1.5m to build a community centre in Croxteth.
