Unsettled Lescott cheered by fans

Everton defender Joleon Lescott

Joleon Lescott was cheered every time he touched the ball as Everton beat Malaga 2-1 in a pre-season friendly at Goodison Park.

The defender, who has told the club he wants to leave, could have expected a tough night, but his name received the loudest applause before the game.

The 26-year-old played the full 90 minutes and left the field with the Gwladys Street fans singing his name.

Manchester City have had £15m and £18m bids for Lescott rejected by Everton.

The Toffees insist they have not received a third offer from big-spending City.

Everton boss Moyes said: "Joleon played really well, he was terrific. There was a lot of cheering for him, and rightly so.

"You only needed to hear the crowd's reaction to him, they know that what we are doing is correct.

"But we are consistent here, we told everyone just after last season that we wouldn't be selling any players and they are still here."

Moyes also confirmed that Everton's bid for Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos is still being considered by the Londoners, but that a deal could be close.

Last season's FA Cup finalists have not had the best of pre-seasons, with only one win in their previous six games.

But they were ahead after 14 minutes when striker striker Louis Saha slammed the ball home from eight yards after goalkeeper Gustavo Munua flapped at a Leighton Baines cross under pressure from Tim Cahill.

Four minutes later, Leon Osman guided the ball wide of Munua from Steven Pienaar's pass for the second.

Everton were comfortable until the break but conceded from a stunning 30-yard free-kick goal from Jose Juan Luque three minutes into the second period.

Marouane Fellaini hit the foot of a post with a spectacular turn and shot before being replaced by Dan Gosling.

Everton gave James Wallace, James Vaughan and Jose Baxter late run-outs ahead of next weekend's Premier League opener against Arsenal.
