Everton have taken up an option on Nuno Valente's contract to keep him at Goodison Park until the summer of 2008.
Valente joined Everton from Porto for £1.5m in 2005
The 32-year-old Portugal full-back signed a two-year deal when he joined the Toffees from Porto in August 2005 - with an option of a further 12 months.
Valente has won 27 Portugal caps and was part of the side that reached the semi-finals of the 2006 World Cup.
He has been sidelined with a knee injury since Everton's FA Cup defeat by Blackburn on 7 January.
Valente has made 43 appearances for the Toffees but is yet to score a goal for David Moyes' side.
