Everton move for Butt
Nicky Butt's appearances have been restricted this season
Everton boss David Moyes has revealed he has made an enquiry about signing Manchester United's Nicky Butt.

But Moyes denied reports the club are set to sign Russian striker Dimitry Bulykin this season, though he is currently on trial at Goodison Park.

"We have made an enquiry about Nicky. I'm always on the lookout for good players," said Moyes.

"Hopefully he'll want to come to Everton but I'm not sure whether it will happen this month."

Moyes added: "As for Bulykin, he is here until the middle of next week for us to have a look at him.

"He does not have enough caps just yet to qualify for a work permit.

"But by the time the summer comes round, and the Euro 2004 finals, he will certainly have played enough."

Things are ongoing and we will see what happens
Birmingham boss Steve Bruce

Birmingham boss Steve Bruce has also been linked with a bid for Butt, and he revealed he had made bids for two Premiership players.

"I'm not going to comment on speculation.

"We have made a couple of bids for two Premiership players but I'm not going to reveal who they are because that would be wrong and disrespectful."

Bruce is a former team-mate of Butt during his playing days at Old Trafford but he is now set to face competition for Butt's signature.

And Bruce admitted last week he is also keen to bring Blackburn defender Martin Taylor to St Andrews to provide cover for the injured Matthew Upson.

Bruce added: "If anything is to come out, it should be coming from the clubs we are talking to. It is up to them to make any statements about their players.

"Things are ongoing and we will see what happens. They've been going on for a few days now but now it has got into the public domain which makes it all the more difficult.

"I have to stress if the right players don't become available, then I'll wait until the summer when you have got a better chance of doing something than this time of year."
