Everton complete Baardsen move
Espen Baardsen
Baardsen was released by Watford

Former Watford and Tottenham goalkeeper Espen Baardsen has joined Everton on a short-term deal.

Baardsen has been an unused substitute for the Toffees in their last two games against Bolton and Birmingham.

The Norwegian has signed to help alleviate the goalkeeping problems Goodison Park manager David Moyes is enduring.

Moyes has lost Steve Simonsen to a broken toe while Paul Gerrard is also out of action with a dislocated kneecap, which was sustained while on loan at Ipswich.

Moyes has been given special dispensation by the league to recruit Baardsen, whose contract at Watford was cancelled in a cost-cutting exercise.

Baardsen knows he could win a longer deal at Goodison Park if he settles in quickly.

Moyes said: "People who come to the club have a chance to show what they can do.

"If they do well we are the sort of people who will tell them and reward them with a contract."
