Money tight for Moyes
Richard Wright
Everton's most recent signing cost £5m
Bill Kenwright has admitted that the signing of Arsenal goalkeeper Richard Wright is likely to spell the end of Everton's summer spending.

But the Toffees chairman says he would "move heaven and earth" if manager David Moyes felt another player would make the difference.

"We've had quite a busy two weeks," said Kenwright, who has also overseen the recent captures of Joseph Yobo, Juliano Rodrigo and Li Tie.

"We have actually spent our budget but if the manager came to me and said 'there's this other piece of the jigsaw which I'm sure is the right piece' I would move heaven and earth to support him."

One player who Kenwright expects to make an impact on the Premiership this season has not cost the club a penny.

Wayne Rooney is already being touted as one of the best players Everton have produced and has been hitting the headlines in pre-season.

"We've all decided at Everton we've got to play down the fact that Wayne Rooney is probably going to be the greatest goalscorer in England," joked Kenwright.

"He's awesome. (Former Everton manager) Walter Smith said to me two years ago that he'd seen something he'd never seen before on a football pitch.

"He's just got everything. He's by far and away the best I've ever seen."
