Everton's Tomasz Radzinski
"Everton is an obvious choice, they wanted me from the beginning"

Everton land Radzinski at last

Everton have finally landed 4.5m Anderlecht striker Tomasz Radzinski - and the Canadian-born striker has set his sights on making an instant Premiership impact.

Everton boss Walter Smith targeted Radzinski - who scored twice against Manchester United when Anderlecht beat them in the Champions League last season - as a natural replacement for Francis Jeffers after his 10m move to Arsenal.

Anderlecht wanted to keep Radzinski, but the Canadian made it clear he was not about to reject a lucrative four-year contract offer from Everton.

And he said after signing: ""I desperately want to play in the Premiership. I know I could be turning my back on Champions League football again if Anderlecht get through a couple of qualifying rounds, but playing in England is like playing in the Champions League all the time.

"I was in the Champions League last season but that is only a handful of games a season, then you are just left playing in the league.

"But in England whether you play in Manchester, Liverpool or against Arsenal you are playing against sides who are in the Champions League all the time. That is what the Premiership is like.

"It's tough, rough and very quick but I have pace and I believe I can adapt to the game here. I'm really looking forward to it."

Radzinski, who may be joined by Romania captain Daniel Prodan if he proves his fitness at Everton's training camp, added: ""Anderlecht made it a little bit more difficult than I expected but I'm glad that everything worked out fine.

"Paul Gascoigne and Duncan Ferguson are names that you hear about all over Europe and I'm delighted to have such big names and great players in the same team.

"If I can have the same season as I did in Belgium last year then it will be tremendous. Hopefully I can get the goals that will get this club back to where it has been in the past."

Anderlecht coach Aime Anthuenis said: "I knew this could happen. This is the price we pay for our success.

"If you count the goals and assists Jan Koller and Radzinski made last season you can figure out why they were wanted abroad."

Smith is delighted with his capture, who will join Everton in their Italian training camp after undergoing the formality of a medical.

He said: "Tomasz will bring us something different. He is a good, fast forward and has a different style to our other strikers."

"I must admit there were occasions that I didn't think the move was going to happen because of the length of time the negotiations took. You start to get an element of doubt about things when that starts to happen.

"But all that is now in the background and we can look forward to seeing Tomasz in an Everton jersey."

Smith added: "There have been fairly lengthy negotiations and I am obviously delighted that part of things is now over.

"It will be good to finally see him in training with us, you are always looking to make a close season signing that will boost the team and I'm sure Tomasz will do that."
