Clarke takes over at East Fife

East Fife have appointed Dave Clarke as manager for a second time following the departure of Rab Shannon two weeks ago.

Clarke had been favourite for the post after interviews were conducted at the end of last week.

He holds the record for the most appearances for the Fifers, 627 between 1968 until 1978, and has a strong affinity with the club.

The 50-year-old electrician has been out of football for 11 years but came close to taking East Fife into the old Premier League during his last spell as manager.

Clarke said: "It's just great to be back. It was the worst decision of my football career when I left East Fife.

"Something happened within the club that made me really angry and upset, but I,m not going into all that now - it's in the past."

Mike Marshall takes over as first team coach, with Danny Hendry also taking on a coaching role.

Interim manager Dave Gorman has criticised the club's suggestion that he had resigned after Clarke's appointment.

He told The Sun: "I've quit on the footballing side and not through choice.

"The club spoke about offering me a position that has nothing to do with football. Nothing's been agreed."
