Pars will not rush Rossi

Dunfermline Athletic have refused to rush Moroccan international Youssef Rossi into action - as they fear he might end up like Michael Mols.

Rangers striker Mols has been ruled out until after Christmas following his return from knee trouble and faces the prospect of another operation.

It is a scenario that Dunfermline manager Jimmy Calderwood is determined will not be repeated with Rossi, who is recovering from cruciate ligament damage.

The summer signing from Rennes has yet to play for the Pars and had hoped to make his bow for the Under-21s against Aberdeen early next week.

Irritation

However, Calderwood revealed that a setback had put those plans on hold and said: "An irritation in the joint of the knee has set him back a week or 10 days.

"We don't want to take any chances with him.

"We've seen the problems Rangers have had with Michael Mols.

"When we get him back, we want him back for good."

Desperate

Rossi, formerly of PSV Eindhoven, had been on loan to NEC in Holland and his transfer will not be completed until he is back playing again.

He is understandably desperate to play again and show the kind of talent that has won him more than 30 caps for his country.

Indeed, he played in the 3-0 win over Scotland in the last World Cup finals and believes that, of what he has seen of Scottish football, it will suit his style of play.

Calderwood believes that the player will prove to be one of the best defenders in Scottish football.
