Hunt requires surgery
Dunfermline striker Noel Hunt

Injury-hit Dunfermline Athletic have suffered another blow with the news that young striker Noel Hunt requires surgery in the summer.

The cartilage problem forced him to miss the Pars drew away to Dundee on Saturday and will not play in the two remaining games of the season.

Manager Jimmy Calderwood told his club's website: "He has to have an operation, which is obviously bad news.

"It shouldn't be a bad one and he will be fit for pre-season."

Hunt arrived at Dunfermline from Shamrock Rovers in January and has already impressed with his quick and fiery play.

Only the form of veteran Craig Brewster and Scotland striker Stevie Crawford have prevented him making regular starts for the Pars.

The injury will rule Hunt out of two Republic of Ireland Under-21 internationals in June, but Calderwood believes that the set-back will not prevent him realising a "massive future".

"The lad has not had a rest for about two and a half years and, at 19 years old, that is not very wise," he said.

"You have to bring him in gently, but Brewster and Crawford aren't the easiest players to displace.

"It would mean leaving one of those two out or putting him into midfield, which we did for a couple of games, where he doesn't like playing.

"Noel has got a lot to learn, but the raw talent is there.

"He has got to play between 60 and 90 games before he will cost us 100,000 - it is all related to appearances."
