Brewster call-up call
Stevie Crawford (left) scores for Dunfermline this season
Stevie Crawford led Scotland's Faroes fightback
Dunfermline Athletic boss Jimmy Calderwood has backed Craig Brewster and Stevie Crawford as an ideal strike pairing for Scotland.

Former Dundee United, Ionikos and Raith Rovers striker Brewster has given Crawford a new lease of life since joining the Pars from Hibernian in the summer.

Crawford's introduction at half time was instrumental in turning Scotland's 2-0 defecit into a 2-2 draw in the Faroe Islands.

But Vogts remains unconvinced about the 28-year-old's long-term international credentials.

Their movement and awareness of each other is unbelievable
Pars boss Jimmy Calderwood
Calderwood, though, believes that the pairing that have helped Dunfermline to a fine, goalscoring start to the season can do the same for Scotland now that a result in Iceland is even more vital.

"I would go along with it," he said. "I can understand people want to play younger players, but we are at the point of no return.

"We've got to get something out of the Iceland game and Craig and Stevie know each other so well. It's a telepathic thing.

"I see them in training every day and their movement and awareness of each other is unbelievable.

"It is a potent force and I'm sure if the manager decided that he needed them then they definitely wouldn't let anybody down.

Craig Brewster (left) is a clever striker
"Stevie has been absolute magnificent and has taken his game to another level. He's so fit and so full of confidence.

"He goes out and expects to score every game. He did well when he came on against the Faroes and I wouldn't like to play against them at the best of times, but definitely not at this moment."

Brewster has enjoyed a resurgence and Calderwood believes he can play on with the Pars beyond his current contract.

"Craig's a very, very good player," he said. "For a 35-year-old, he's so fit and he's a great professional.

"He's a very clever player and if you are playing up front in Greece alone then you have go to be a good player."
