Houston and the Dundee United chairman will have talks next week

Dundee United manager Peter Houston has told BBC Scotland that he has no intention of quitting the club.

Houston was angered at press reports that he could leave Tannadice if the club sold some of its top players.

He said: "I never mentioned quitting the club or talked about it in any context. It has been sensationalised. I've no intention of quitting United."

Ahead of talks with the club chairman, he added: "I still have two years left to run in whatever capacity."

Tannadice chairman Stephen Thompson confirmed to BBC Scotland that he will sit down with Houston next week to discuss his position.

Houston has been in charge of the first team since Craig Levein left to take the Scotland job.

Thompson said: "Peter has done himself no harm at all with a third-place finish and reaching the the Scottish Cup final.

"We still have one or two big things to sort out and discuss but I'm quite relaxed about it."

Thompson, meantime, insisted that the club did not need to sell any of its players and that, if they did, it would take a hefty bid to buy them.

"We don't have to sell anyone. We're in a good position with the league finish and the Cup run," he said.

"No-one will be leaving here on the cheap. If clubs want to make offers for our players it'll take a seven-figure sum to get them. We will only sell if we get the right offer."
