Dundee United's Bowman targets Scottish Cup glory

Coach Dave Bowman believes Dundee United have never had a better chance of lifting the Scottish Cup.

But Bowman, who was part of United's winning side in 1994, says the Tannadice club won't underestimate Raith Rovers in Sunday's semi-final.

"What a chance we've got this season, all the times I played in semis it was against teams from the Scottish Premier League," Bowman told BBC Scotland.

"There is no better chance for the players to get their name on that cup."

Dundee United though are keen to guard against complacency, after watching Rovers knock Aberdeen and Dundee out out of the Scottish Cup already this season.

The First Division side are fighting against relegation, but Bowman, who spent a season at Stark's Park near the end of his career, says the Fife side have proven themselves this season.

"Losing a goal in injury time against Aberdeen at home, you could feel sorry for yourself," he added.

"All credit to Raith, they responded brilliantly in the replay and got the result."

Despite Rovers' excellent run in the cup, the 46-year-old, who is now a community coach at Tannadice, believes the First Division side will come up short at Hampden on Sunday.

"John McGlynn's done a brilliant job there," added Bowman. "They've obviously got a lot of grit.

"It's all on the day, but there's no reason why we can't win."
