Thompson funeral date confirmed

The funeral arrangements for the late Dundee United chairman Eddie Thompson have been announced.

The service will take place at 1pm on Wednesday 22 October at St Mary's Episcopal Church in Broughty Ferry.

Only close family and invited friends will be allowed to attend the service but the ceremony will be broadcast outside the church via loudspeakers.

Thompson died in the early hours of Wednesday morning aged 67 following a long battle with cancer.

A club statement read: "The family have requested family flowers only; donations in lieu, if so desired, to Ward 32, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

"It was the Chairman's special request that colourful clothes be worn.

"The burial service will be strictly private."
