New Bosman threat
Arnar Gunnlaugsson in rare action for Dundee United
Gunnlaugsson failed to make the grade at United
Dundee United reject Arnar Gunnlaugsson has threatened to become the new Jean-Marc Bosman and smash Fifa's new transfer windows.

The former Feyenoord, Bolton Wanderers and Leicester City striker had the remaining 18 months of his Tannadice contract terminated by mutual consent.

Bosman was the Belgian who took the football authorities to the European Court of Justice in 1996 and broke the existing transfer system.

Now Iceland international Gunnlaugsson is considering challenging the new rules that could see him out in the cold until the summer.

I can't sign for a club outside Scotland

Arnar Gunnlaugsson
"According to Fifa's new rules, I don't think I'm able to sign for any club outwith Scotland," he told The Sun newspaper.

"It's not permissable to change between different federations more than once per season.

"Because I went from the English federation to the Scottish one in August, I can't sign for a club outside Scotland."

Gunnlaugsson joined United from Stoke City but has only made one first-team start for the side that have only just lifted themselves off the bottom of the Scottish Premier League.

"It was pointless to stay and it was best for me and the club that I went on a free transfer," he said.

"I am not interested in playing for another Scottish club."
