Wilson wins young player award

Dundee United defender Mark Wilson has been named Bank of Scotland Scottish Premier League young player of the month for November.

The 21-year-old has become a first-team regular in recent months at Tannadice.

He scored his first goal for the club at the weekend against Hibs.

Wilson made his debut for the club in January of this year in a Scottish Cup win over Forres Mechanics, before making his league debut later that month in the Dundee derby.

But it is this season the Glasgow-born player has come to prominence, with 12 first-team appearances as well as three in the CIS Insurance Cup.

"It is a great honour to be given this award, I'm delighted," said Wilson.

"I have got about a bit lately, playing in every position at the back and in midfield, but as long as I get a game it doesn't bother me.

"It is good to be able to adapt to different positions, I think that will help me become a better player. I am just happy to be in the team."

United manager Paul Hegarty added: "Mark really is an old head on young shoulders. He has been excellent for us and this award is thoroughly deserved.

"He has played in several positions for me and has performed to a very high standard. I wouldn't hesitate to ask him to play any role in the team. He is an unassuming lad who handles himself well."
