United release foreign duo
Stephane Leoni has failed to make an impact at Tannadice
Stephane Leoni has failed to make an impact at Tannadice
Dundee United manager Alex Smith has shown the door to foreign signings Stephane Leoni and Alphonse Tchami.

French defender Leoni and Cameroon international striker Tchami have failed to make much of an impact as United continue to struggle at the foot of the Scottish Premier League.

Leoni made only five appearances during his three-month spell while Tchami, who signed a two-year contract in August, failed to live up to expectations.

Smith said: "Stephane did all right during his spell at Tannadice, but we have plenty of cover in his position.

Big reputation

"As for Alphonse, he arrived with a big reputation and worked hard on his fitness, but his style of play did not suit Scottish football."

Leoni, 24, came to Tannadice after spells with Metz and Bristol Rovers, but has returned to France to look for a club.

Tchami, capped 57 times, had played with Boca Juniors in Argentina and Hertha Berlin in Germany, but could not come to terms with Scottish football.
