Dundee land Roccati on loan
Marco Roccati will be at Dens Park until the end of the season
Marco Roccati will be at Dens Park until the end of the season
Dundee have unveiled the man they hope will replace Rab Douglas - Italian goalkeeper Marco Roccati from Bologna.

Roccati will be on loan with the Tayside team until the end of the season, further swelling the ranks of foreigners in Dundee, and should make his debut against Dunfermline Athletic on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was number two at the Serie A club, but Dens Park player-manager Ivano Bonetti is confident that Roccati has the necessary experience for the Scottish Premier League.

Bonetti has also assured the club's young goalkeeper James Langfield that he has a future at the club.

Roccati, who is valued at around 1m, himself said: "I decided to come to Dundee because it is a chance for me to grow as a goalkeeper and for my career to grow.

"It will allow me to show people what I am worth and I'm looking forward to playing in the SPL."

I am hopeful of negotiating an option to buy Marco when the loan deal runs out

The Dens Park boss hopes to make Roccati's signing a permanent one at the end of the season if things go well, but it could cost around 1m to secure the former under-21 internationalist.

Among his previous clubs are Empoli and Perugia.

"I am hopeful of negotiating an option to buy Marco when the loan deal runs out at the end of the season," said Bonetti.

"Only a couple of years ago, there was a 1.3m tag on his head which shows he has a good reputation."

Roccati's arrival is likely to mean immediate demotion for under-21 internationalist Langfield who played against Motherwell.

Future role

But Bonetti believes he will have a role to play at Dens Park in the future.

"Jamie is a very good goalkeeper. After all, he plays for the national team," said Bonetti.

"Jamie can be called upon, but is not yet ready for full first-team responsibility.

"I am certain that he has the talent to be a very good keeper for us in the future.

"It may be an idea to send him out on loan to another club to get more experience."
