Doncaster Rovers end Chris Kirkland loan deal

Doncaster Rovers have ended Chris Kirkland's loan spell from Wigan after the goalkeeper suffered a recurrence of a back problem.

The 30-year-old only joined Rovers last week on loan until January and played in Friday's 3-0 defeat by Leeds.

Rovers manager Dean Saunders told BBC Radio Sheffield: "He's got a problem with his back so he's gone back to Wigan and we move on.

"It's a spasm in his back and if you've had one you can't move."

Kirkland was out for three weeks after suffering the same problem during a loan spell at Leicester last season.

His departure means 41-year-old Neil Sullivan will continue in goal for Rovers' trip to Portsmouth on Saturday.

And Saunders has revealed he has offered the former Leeds United keeper a new one-year deal.

"He's about to (sign a new contract), but I agreed that with him last week before Chris came in," added Saunders.
