Chimbonda won one international cap for France in 2006
Doncaster Rovers have signed former France defender Pascal Chimbonda on a short-term contract until January.
The 32-year-old is a free agent after leaving QPR in April and played at left-back in a friendly match against a Chesterfield side on Wednesday.
Rovers manager Dean Saunders told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We need some life breathing into us, we need an injection and the players need help."
Meanwhile, Rovers have named Brian Carey as their assistant manager.
The 43-year-old was Saunders' assistant at Wrexham, a club wehre he spent 20 years as a player and coach.
But Rovers chairman John Ryan believes they have missed out on striker El-Hadji Diouf, a free agent after leaving Blackburn. He said: "I've heard he's going to Russia for a king's ransom."
