Mills had a successful spell with Rovers last season
Doncaster Rovers director of football Micky Walker says the club have other options if do not sign Matt Mills.
Rovers want to re-sign the Manchester City defender following a successful loan spell last season.
But new City boss Mark Hughes is assessing his squad and could decided to keep the 22-year-old at Eastlands.
Walker told BBC Radio Sheffield: "There are one or two options. We'll support [boss] Sean O'Driscoll on that. We can pull something out of the bag anyway."
