Shefki Kuqi desperate to play regularly at Derby

Derby County new boy Shefki Kuqi said his desire to play first-team football was behind his loan move from Swansea.

The burly 34-year-old striker, who has signed a three-month contract at Pride Park, told BBC Radio Derby: "I was like a second-team player.

"I played 90 minutes in two Carling Cup games and scored in both but it didn't change my situation.

"I feel good. I have been training well and physically am in good condition. I just want to play games."

The Finland international, who made his Rams debut in the 2-0 defeat away against Hull on Tuesday, added: "It is great to be involved and I miss playing.

"If I wanted to I could have just seen my contract out there but I have this opportunity and it feels right. I just want to play football."

Rams first-team coach Johnny Metgod was encouraged by Kuqi's display against the Tigers.

"He did all right," Metgod said. "Coming here to Hull straight away is not easy and he tried to do everything he could and worked his socks off.

"The longer he's with us the more settled he will be and hopefully he will get us some goals."
