Robbie Savage won 39 Wales caps between 1995 and 2005
Midfielder Robbie Savage says he wants a second chance under a new manager at Derby County.
The former skipper was effectively frozen out by Paul Jewell - who left the club on Monday.
The 34-year-old told BBC Radio Derby: "I was virtually told from early on in pre-season that I wasn't going to figure much.
"I've worked hard, I've been a positive influence and that won't change in or out of the team under the new manager."
Savage added: "People say that my legs have gone but [in training] in the running groups I'm at the top, I work hard and I've got to where I am because of my work rate and determination.
"Some days I could be the best player in training and still not have a chance of playing under the previous manager, but I didn't sulk.
"I was so positive but people on the outside world don't see that - they see Robbie Savage who used to go around kicking people, but I can actually play.
"Everyone deserves a second chance."
Derby signed Savage from Blackburn Rovers for an an estimated £1.5m in January 2008.
