Robbie Savage won 39 Wales caps between 1995 and 2005
Robbie Savage could still make a shock move to Lebanese club Al Ansar, their Welsh head coach Roy Thomas insists.
The Derby County midfielder, who had been on loan at Brighton, visited the Middle East with a view to a possible move to take up a player/coaching role.
Thomas admits he is still hoping to sign fellow Welshman Savage, admitting: "Robbie Savage was here last week and we are still interested in signing him.
"There is still a possibility of Robbie coming out to play for us."
The 34-year-old was linked to the Beirut-based side after details of a trip to the Middle East emerged.
Al Ansar initially denied the link with the controversial former Wales midfielder but Thomas still hopes the move could be made.
Derby signed Savage from Blackburn Rovers for an an estimated £1.5m in January and he is only eleven months into a two and a half year contract at Pride Park.
Out-of-favour Savage spent last month on loan to Brighton but has returned to the East Midlands because of a shin injury.
