Albrechtsen has become a fans' favourite at Derby County
Derby County centre-back Martin Albrechtsen was pleased to return from a double hernia operation in Tuesday's 3-1 win over Norwich City.
The 28-year-old, who underwent surgery three weeks ago, told BBC Radio Derby: "I've recovered quicker than expected but only trained once with the team.
"It's not ideal but under the circumstances I had to play."
The Dane says he decided to have surgery on the hernia because the timing was right.
He explained: "I did my hamstring against Birmingham and we just thought with the international break I might as well get my hernia done as well.
"I could have played on but you never know if it's going to get worse - I guess it probably would have done.
"To be honest I thought I'd be more stiff after this game but it felt alright and I'm pleased to come back and have a good game."
