Derby bid to host women's final

Derby County

Derby County are bidding to host the women's FA Cup final at their Pride Park home in May.

The last two finals have been held at Nottingham Forest's City Ground but the Reds have taken themselves out of the running for the 2009 event.

Rams chief executive Tom Glick told BBC Radio Derby: "It's a great up-and-coming event.

"We see every opportunity why Derby, with its amazing support, can take it up to the next level."

Glick said he hoped Derby could help the final attract a gate of 30-33,000 spectators.

A crowd of 24,582 watched Arsenal win the FA Cup by beating Leeds at the City Ground in May.
