Connolly targets Premier League

Paul Connolly
I've been in a comfort zone... it's time to move on

New Derby signing Paul Connolly has said he is certain he will soon be playing in the Premier League.

The right-back, 24, joined the Rams, after seven years at Plymouth, because he did not want his career to stagnate.

Connolly told BBC Radio Derby: "I was becoming stale, it's a lovely part of the world [Plymouth] but it's time to move on, the enjoyment was going.

"This is an unbelievable move for me because I know this club is going to be in the Premier League."

Connolly joined the Rams on a free transfer and he said he is excited by the prospect of beginning the next stage of his career.

"It's like starting a new school and I can't wait to get going.

"I'm nervous but if you're not nervous when you are playing then you will not perform as you haven't got that edge.

"It was part of the reason why I left because I felt I was losing that edge, I've been in a comfort zone."

Connolly said Rams fans can expect to see a rampaging full-back who enjoys getting forward as much as he does defending.

"I'm a very attacking right-back and enjoy putting crosses in the box trying to cause havoc.

"I'm quite athletic and fit and am good in the air, I consider myself an all-action type defender and I always try to play football with a smile on my face."
