Derby County have warned Swansea City that they are confident of signing pivotal midfielder Ferrie Bodde.

The League One champions have rejected a 750,000 bid for the Dutchman from relegated Premier League side Derby.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins said: "The offer is laughable, especially for a player who is not for sale anyway."

But Adam Pearson, Derby's chairman of football, insists: "That will not put us off, we're intent on pursuing it until we have a successful conclusion."

Bodde impressed for the Swans in his first season in English football since a 100,000 move from Dutch club Den Haag.

The 26-year-old hardman was honoured with selection in the League One team of the season.

Derby's bid for Bodde was an initial 500,000 down-payment but included an extra 250,000 if the Rams were promoted back to the Premiership at the end of the season.

Pearson admitted: "He is a player we have been watching for a long time and I know the manager Paul Jewell sees him as an important signing.

"He is a target that is uppermost in our thoughts. It might take time but we hope we'll be able to secure him."

Jenkins, though, is insistent that relegated Premier League side Derby will not prize away one of Swansea's crown jewels.

"Having just won promotion to the Championship, our aim is to strengthen our squad and compete," said Jenkins.

"I will not let our best players go on the cheap."
