Boss Paul Jewell says loan signing Hossam Ghaly will earn a permanent move to Derby County if he continues to play like he did against Middlesbrough.

The Tottenham midfielder, 26, came off the bench to spark Saturday's much-improved second-half display.

Jewell told BBC Radio Derby: "If he plays like that between now and the end of the season we'll try to keep him.

"Hossam is a terrific footballer. He ran the game when he came on and he looked a real good player."

Ghaly has been an inconsistent performer since moving to Pride Park in mid-January and has started just six Premier League games.

But Jewell is an admirer of the Egyptian's class.

"He's got all the tricks," Jewell said, "but we're trying to make him aware that he should use the tricks when he needs to.

"Hossam has brilliant feet, a great football brain and great technique and when he came on he ran the game.

"He passed it, he did his tricks at the right time, he went past people, he created opportunities and he got back."
