Staunton tips Mulligan to improve

Steve Staunton
Staunton is a relative managerial novice

Darlington manager Steve Staunton believes that winger Nathan Mulligan will grow as a player as he gains more experience with the club.

"There's more to come from Nathan. It's a big step-up," Staunton told BBC Tees.

"From where he's come from he found the pace just a little bit quick, but it's a good work-out for him."

Mulligan, 23, signed from Northern League side Norton & Stockton Ancients, made his Quakers debut as a substitute against Hereford a fortnight ago.

He then made his first Football League start on Saturday, lasting the first hour of the Quakers' 1-0 home win against Burton Albion.

Former Middlesbrough academy player Mulligan has overcome leukaemia to continue his career.
