Darlington boss wants creativity

Dave Penney
Penney believes his side need to be more creative

Darlington manager Dave Penney has warned his side they must be more creative going forward following Saturday's 2-1 win against Bournemouth.

The Quakers struggled to break the Cherries down but Penney wants his side to remain an attractive side rather than sacrifice their passing style.

"Teams aren't going to lie down and we're going to have to be careful about how we play," he told BBC Tees.

"We've got to make sure we don't go into route one."

Meanwhile Penney is also awaiting confirmation that striker Liam Hatch will be returning to the club after he returned to parent club Peterborough United on Monday.

Hatch, 26, made his final appearance for the Quakers in Saturday's win and the Darlington manager Penney is hopeful he will return to bolster the club's promotion bid.

"I think he's on the bench for Peterborough on Tuesday and I think there have been a couple of bids that have been put in from clubs in our division and the division above," he added.

"Whether those bids have been accepted or whether they've agreed a fee I'm not quite sure.

"We'll probably know Thursday or Friday whether he's going to be with us for the rest of the season or going to another club.

"We can't afford to buy anybody, so the only way we're going to have Liam Hatch is on loan."
