Dagenham and Redbridge have signed veteran midfielder Darren Currie on a month-long loan from Chesterfield.

The 34-year-old's move comes with the agreement that the Daggers will sign Londoner Currie on an 18-month deal in the January transfer window.

Currie has made more than 500 Football League appearances since making his debut for Shrewsbury Town in 1994.

He was twice named in the PFA Division Three team of the year while playing for Barnet between 1998 and 2001.

After starting as a trainee at West Ham, Currie moved initially on loan to Shrewsbury and has since also had spells with Leyton Orient, Plymouth Albion, Barnet, Wycombe, Brighton, Ipswich, Coventry, Derby and Luton.

He also had a loan deal at LA Galaxy before moving to Luton in 2007, making 38 appearances before the club went into administration.

Currie, the nephew of former Sheffield United, Leeds United and England footballer Tony Currie, moved to Chesterfield at the start of this season.
