Verbeek denies he said anything wrong about Crystal Palace

Australia coach Pim Verbeek says he has been misquoted following reports he suggested Nick Carle should leave Crystal Palace to further his career.

The midfielder has been left out of the latest Socceroos squad but Verbeek denies he wants Carle to move on.

"I never said it is a terrible club, I love English football and think Crystal Palace is a great club," Verbeek said.

"I only had my doubts about Nicky's qualities if he wants to be in the Socceroos team for the future."

Verbeek added: "How many games has he played the last few months or year?

"Let's first see his qualities, the last time he played well was in the A-League, that's two years ago."

Verbeek also said he hoped Palace manager Neil Warnock would understand that the quotes were taken out of context.

"I'm the manager of the Socceroos and I have not said anything wrong, or stupid, or negative about Crystal Palace.

"I have no problems to call him (Warnock) and tell him what I said, because he knows he should not believe what is said in the media.

"I should have sent him the tapes of all that I have said, because if you say something about a player you only get half of what I said."
