Fitness concerns at Crewe Alexandra - Steve Davis

Crewe assistant manager Steve Davis says the team's fitness is a concern after losing at Oldham in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday.

The Alex lost 3-1 to the League One side and have now conceded three goals in each of their last three games.

Davis told BBC Radio Stoke: "The last 20 minutes we couldn't cope. We ran out of steam at the end. It's a worry.

"We don't block shots or crosses well. We changed the defence but it didn't make much difference."

The Alex have lost four of their last five games and are currently 18th in League Two, six points from the bottom two.

"The performance for probably 65 minutes was excellent," said Davis. "We worked hard to get back into the game at 1-1 but we couldn't go on and make a difference.

"Nick Powell was the only one that was capable of hurting them in the final third which isn't good enough."

The Alex have struggled to find the net recently, scoring three in their last four and Davis says it is something that needs to change.

"We need a big centre forward who can help us out," said Davis. "It's noticeable that we're crying out for that type of player."
