Crewe Alexandra defender Harry Davis eyes 'big season'

Davis has made two substitute appearances for Crewe

Crewe Alexandra defender Harry Davis believes the coming season is a crucial one as he looks to establish himself in the first team.

Davis, 19, is the son of assistant manager Steve who made 145 appearances for the Alex.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "He just treats me as a normal player. He gives me feedback at home and that can only be good for me.

"I know it's a very big season for me - all I can do is give it my best shot."

The 19-year-old was on the fringes of the first team last term and came on as a substitute in their final game of last season against Bradford.

His younger brother Joe is making similar progress at neighbours, Port Vale.

Harry added : "There's always a bit of banter between us. If we get beat Joe will give me some stick but if we beat them I'll give him some back.

"It's a bit strange being defenders like our Dad but I suppose we both take after the old man, so I can't fault him for that.

Davis joined the rest of Crewe's squad on Friday for the start of pre-season training.

Also there was former Bournemouth central defender Josh Gowling and out-of-contract striker Byron Moore.
