Crewe reject swap deal for Aldershot's Marvin Morgan

Crewe manager Dario Gradi has revealed that he has turned down the chance to sign Aldershot striker Marvin Morgan in an exchange deal with Calvin Zola.

Morgan was made available for transfer on Wednesday following a message he posted on Twitter, in response to booing he received from supporters.

But Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke: "I'm quite happy with my two strikers (Shaun Miller and Clayton Donaldson).

"I don't think I'll find a better striker than those two in this league."

Gradi continued: "They're my first choice and I don't think there would be much point in contemplating that switch.

"Zola's had plenty of chances to go to all sorts of clubs and has chosen not to, so there's no reason to assume he'd want to go anyway."

Morgan joined Aldershot from non-league Woking in May 2008 and scored 16 goals as Kevin Dillon's side reached the League Two play-offs in 2009/10.

But the striker has scored just five times in 19 league appearances this season, while the Shots find themselves in the bottom half of the table.

Zola, meanwhile, was Crewe's top scorer with 18 goals last season but has found opportunities limited by the form of Donaldson and Miller in the Alex attack.

The pair have scored 22 goals between them for the Alex this season, with Miller scoring in consecutive matches during the festive period to reach double figures for the campaign.

He dedicated his winning goals against Northampton and Shrewsbury to close friend Matt Nixon, 22, who died from carbon monoxide poisoning just before Christmas.

The striker told BBC Radio Stoke: "I was disappointed that I didn't get to play just after he'd died, so I wanted to score for him and I've dedicated those goals to him.

"I wanted to put on a performance for him, and with the two wins as well it was perfect."

Crewe face Wycombe at the Alexandra Stadium on Saturday.
