Crewe Alexandra striker Byron Moore stalls on deal

Crewe Alexandra striker Byron Moore has stalled on signing a new contract after talks with boss Dario Gradi.

As Moore, 22, is under the age of 24 the club would receive compensation for him if he decides not to extend his stay beyond the summer.

The Alex boss told BBC Radio Stoke: "I've had a chat with Byron and his agent. It wasn't about money because we won't negotiate on that.

"They feel perhaps he could play in a higher league."

Moore has made 116 league appearances, scoring 12 goals at first team level.

Gradi added: "His agent was pleasant and sensible with his questions and put Byron's viewpoint over very well. We spoke about his future and Byron playing in a higher league.

"The question would then be about interest and who would be prepared to pay the transfer fee or the compensation fee for him.

"The ball is in their court and I haven't set a time limit on him because he isn't out of contract until the summer.

"There is no need to sell him in January because we are entitled to compensation anyway. We are hopeful that he will decide that he is better of with us ."
