Burton Albion defender Aaron Webster signs new contract

Burton Albion left-back Aaron Webster has rejected the chance to join Crewe Alexandra and signed a new contract at the Pirelli Stadium.

Webster, 29, had been mulling over an offer from Burton's League Two rivals after initially only being offered a one-year deal at the Pirelli Stadium.

But Webster has now agreed a year-long deal with an appearance-based option to extend it by a further 12 months.

"I'm chuffed everything is sorted now," he told the club's website.

"It has been a difficult few days for me as Crewe are a big club.

"I was disappointed not be retained at the end of last season but that made me determined to prove to the manager that I can be a better and fitter player.

"I think I have shown that in the first couple of weeks of pre-season training."

The Alex are in the market for a left-back following the departures of former captains John Brayford to Derby County and Billy Jones to Exeter City.

It leaves teenager Matt Tootle as the only recognised full-back in the squad.

Crewe have taken left-sided defenders Chris Stokes and Danny Blanchett on trial during pre-season, but manager Dario Gradi is keen to add more experience to his team.
