Crewe Alexandra captain Mat Mitchel-King is hoping he can repeat the FA Cup run he enjoyed with his former club Histon last season.

The Alex kick off their cup campaign at non-league York on Saturday.

"We had a great run with Histon," said Mitchel-King. "We knocked out Swindon and Leeds and it's something I'll remember for my whole career.

"FA Cup fever took hold of the whole area. It's a great competition to make a name for yourself in."

Mitchel-King and fellow Crewe defender Patrick Ada were both in the Histon side eventually beaten in the third round by Championship side Swansea.

"It's going to be something new to us because we've been used to being the underdogs," added the 25-year-old defender.

"We need to approach the game like any other game and put in another good performance. Even though it's not for points this weekend, we want to put a run together.

"They've got a strong Conference team and they'll give us a stern test."

Crewe reached the third round of the FA Cup last season, beating Ebbsfleet and Carlisle before losing to Millwall after a replay.
