Thordarson embarrassed by defeat

Crewe manager Gudjon Thordarson has promised to get tough with his players after seeing them humiliated by Accrington Stanley on Friday.

The Alex were beaten 5-3 at the Crown Ground, although they were 5-1 down at one stage, with Thordarson describing the defeat as "embarrassing".

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "They might think I'm a bit of a soft touch, maybe I'm too nice, but I won't accept that.

"I'm embarrassed and deeply hurt by that performance and that result."

The Alex have now lost their last three matches, against Shrewsbury, Aldershot and Accrington, leaving them 11th in League Two with 12 points from nine games.

Two goals each for Bobby Grant and former Crewe loanee Michael Symes did the damage on Friday, with Thordarson left dumbfounded by his team's display.

"They've let themselves down, they've let their team-mates down, the staff, the supporters and the directors of the club. It's not acceptable and I won't settle for that," said Thordarson.

"Whether I send them out in a 4-4-2 or 3-4-3 or whatever, if the players play like that, it doesn't matter what I do. Some of them don't deserve to wear the shirt."

Crewe have the chance to bounce back on Tuesday when they take on Bury at the Alexandra Stadium.
