Thordarson's Crewe were relegated on the final day of last season
Crewe manager Gudjon Thordarson has said that his side must improve in what will be his first full season in charge at the Alexandra Stadium.
The Icelander was appointed in December but was unable to prevent the Alex from being relegated to League Two.
"It is never easy to join a club mid-season, but the players now know what I want," Thordarson told BBC Radio Stoke.
"It is a new challenge for everyone, from the coaching staff to the players, and we have to try and improve."
Thordarson added: "They need to get out of the comfort zone and step up to the challenge in a professional manner."
Thordarson took over in South Cheshire with the Alex bottom of League One and led the out of the relegation zone to be named manager of the month for February.
But Crewe were relegated on the final day of the season after failing to win any of their last ten games.
