Kevan rejects Crewe assistant job

Gudjon Thordarson
Thordarson's search for a new assistant manager will continue

Notts County assistant manager Dave Kevan has turned down the chance to become Gudjon Thordarson's number two at Crewe Alexandra.

"The offer from Crewe was very appealing and I had to give it proper consideration," said Kevan.

"But after all that Ian McParland and I have been through at Notts County over the past 18 months, I cannot walk out on him now."

Thordarson will now target Nantwich Town manager Steve Davis for the role.

Thordarson and Kevan led Stoke City to promotion to the old Division One in 2002.

The Icelander is re-structuring his backroom team at the Alexandra Stadium during the close season, and wanted Kevan to join him as he attempts to bounce back to League One at the first attempt, following their relegation in May.

Our job at Notts County is nowhere near complete

Chief scout Glyn Chamberlain has already left the club, while Neil Baker will no longer be assistant manager and will now take on more scouting duties.

McParland and Kevan took over at Notts County in October 2007, and led them to 19th in League Two last season.

"Our job at Notts County is nowhere near complete," added Kevan. "We have spent the past 18 months trying to clean the place up and re-introduce a proper structure.

"It's been hard, and the manager and chairman deserve a lot of credit for getting us to where we are now.

"But I believe we have made real inroads and if the takeover goes through successfully, it will give us a genuine chance of putting Notts County back on the football map."
