Baudet swapping Crewe for States

Julian Baudet
Baudet has been the club captain at Crewe for the last two seasons

Crewe defender Julian Baudet will join MLS side Colorado Rapids, according to BBC Radio Stoke.

The 30-year-old will sign a two-year contract, with the option to extend it by a further two years.

"Crewe wanted to keep me, but they weren't in a position to offer me anything," Baudet told BBC Radio Stoke.

"I need to look after myself and my family. The Rapids came to me with a good offer, so I'm going to America in the summer."

Baudet joined the Alex in 2006 and has made over 100 appearances, winning the club's player of the year award in 2007/8.

He said the best way to round off his time at Crewe will be to help the club achieve survival in League One.

"If we win the last three games, we'll stay up, We need to stay focused and do the job," said Baudet.

Crewe manager Gudjon Thordarson, who also coached Baudet while the pair were at Notts County, admitted it would be difficult to stand in Baudet's way.

Thordarson told BBC Radio Stoke: "I can fully understand it. I think it's an exciting opportunity for him that can secure his future, so it's good for Julian. He deserves the move."
