Thordarson pays tribute to squad

Gudjon Thordarson
Thordarson won four out of five matches in February to win the award

Crewe Alexandra manager Gudjon Thordarson has dedicated his manager of the month award to his players.

The 53-year-old picked up the prize for February after guiding his team out of the League One relegation zone.

Thordarson told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's great recognition of what we've been doing and it's nice to see that.

"It's for the club and for the players, who have gone out on the pitch and committed themselves in the manner they have, so credit must go to them."

Thordarson took over at the Alexandra Stadium on Christmas Eve, with Crewe rooted to the bottom of the League One table.

The Alex won four of their five matches in February, beating Southend, Huddersfield, Yeovil and Brighton, with defeat at Leyton Orient their only blip in the month.

Crewe are now one place and one point above the relegation zone.

They lost 2-1 to Carlisle on 3 March, but will look to return to winning ways when Hereford visit the Alexandra Stadium on Saturday (7 March, 1500 GMT).
