Collis left speechless by errors

Steve Collis
Collis has been an ever-present for Crewe since his move from Southend

Crewe goalkeeper Steve Collis has admitted he cannot explain the errors that the team have been making.

Both goals in Friday's 2-0 defeat at Tranmere came from defensive mistakes, as Crewe stayed bottom of League One.

Collis told BBC Radio Stoke: "I'm speechless, if you give goals like that away, you're always going to struggle.

"We've got to hold our hands up and put it right, for all our good play and all our effort, if we make mistakes like that, it's going to cost us."

A section of Crewe fans held up banners at Prenton Park calling for the sacking of first-team coach Steve Holland and assistant manager Neil Baker.

But the former Southend goalkeeper believes the players should take responsibility for their poor run of form.

"We can understand their frustration and I can only assure them that we're doing as much as we can to turn things round," Collis said.

"The coaching staff are coming in for criticism but it's the players' responsibility and we've got to say that the mistakes we made cost us the game."
