Crewe first-team coach Steve Holland has said he hopes to make three new signings by the end of the week.

Southend goalkeeper Steve Collis and Tranmere striker Calvin Zola are two of the players and they could be joined by an unnamed winger.

"We might complete a deal with a winger this week but there's a bit of work to be done," Holland told BBC Radio Stoke.

"We would like a player who can carry the ball from midfield and produce something out of the ordinary."

A fee has already been agreed for Congolese striker Zola, who will join the Alex subject to a work permit being granted.

"We're very hopeful that something positive will come from that deal by the end of the week," said Holland.

"I think he would be a terrific signing, I'm really excited about it."

Meanwhile former Nottingham Forest keeper Collis is mulling over a contract from the Railwaymen after being told he can leave Southend.

The 27-year-old would solve the goalkeeping dilemma Holland was left with after both Ben Wiiliams and Owain Fn Williams decided they wanted to leave the Alexandra Stadium.

"We're optimistic that Steve will accept what we've offered before next week," said Holland.
