Crewe sign Conference star
Steve Jones hit 23 goals while playing on the wing for Leigh RM
Steve Jones has signed a three year deal
Crewe Alexandra have won the race to sign Steve Jones, one of the top goalscorers in the Conference last season.

The First Division side have beaten Tranmere Rovers to the signature of the 27-year-old, who started as a trainee at Blackpool.

Jones hit 23 goals while playing on the wing for Leigh RMI.

He signed a three-year deal at Crewe on Tuesday evening.

'Track record'

The contract is worth 75,000 to the Conference side with another 75,000 to come after 60 appearances.

Jones told BBC Radio Stoke: "Once I'd seen the set-up I knew this was the place for me."

"I'm well aware of the track record the manager [Dario Gradi] has and that also swayed my decision."

Meanwhile, Dario Gradi will be keeping a keen eye on the two trialists in pre-season training - Alex Higgins and Steven Torphey.

Alex Higgins is a former Sheffield Wednesday and England Youth International midfielder.

Steven Torpey is a former Liverpool youngster.
