Bothroyd hits out at Arsenal
Jay Bothroyd
Jay Bothroyd has criticised his former club
Coventry City's new striker, Jay Bothroyd, has slammed his former club Arsenal, claiming they are "not interested in youth".

The 18-year-old England youth star - dismissed from Highbury last season after a bust-up with youth coach Don Howe - launched the attack after signing a 1m deal with Coventry.

He said: "Arsenal want to buy success but Coventry are bringing up the youth.

"The first team are not interested in youth at Arsenal."

Although the Gunners lifted the FA Youth Cup last season, Bothroyd believes the trainees have little chance of upstaging the foreign stars.

He added: "The manager's job is always on the line. He needs success now.

"If a few young players come through that's a bonus, but he wants success now."

Bothroyd's attack comes as FA technical director Howard Wilkinson slammed clubs who invested in youth academies only to undermine the process by buying too many foreign players.
