Mifsud wins Malta sporting award

Coventry striker Michael Mifsud has won over 50 caps for Malta

Coventry City's FA Cup matchwinner Michael Mifsud has been named Malta's Sportsman of the Year for 2007.

Mifsud found out about his award just a day after scoring his 16th goal of the season on Saturday to beat Millwall and steer the Sky Blues to the fifth round.

Around 1,200 Maltese journalists took part in the annual poll, awarding Mifsud 377 votes, over 100 more than his nearest rival.

Malta's football squad, including Mifsud, were voted "Team of the Year".
