Colchester boss John Ward calls for fans 'patience'

Colchester United manager John Ward has called for fans to be patient as his search for a striker continues.

The U's have reported back for pre-season training with just two recognised attackers, Steven Gillespie and Kayode Odejayi.

Ward told BBC Essex: "We spoke early to a couple of players and they chose elsewhere, we'll keep trying.

"I may have to be patient, I knew I would probably have to wait a little while and that's still the case."

Ward added that he was not in the running to sign Jamie Cureton, who joined Leyton Orient last month.

"Jamie's very similar to Steven Gillespie and that may not have worked - I just want it to be a bit more compatible," he said.

"I've got patience and I hope everybody else has as well."

The U's boss also said he had not spoken to last season's Reading loanee David Mooney about a permanent move to the club.

He added that he had not talked to former U's strikers Kevin Lisbie, who has left Ipswich, or Lomana Tresor Lua-Lua.
